When I joined @bodymassgym I wanted to take the next step of adding some lean mass after losing 30 lbs in three months through improving my nutrition. My goal was to try to get in the best shape I could before my first trip to Hawaii in October! I talked to Megan, one of the awesome trainers at Bodymass, about my goal and what I could do to get there, mainly through a strength training program to complement my nutritional diet and use of safe and effective supplements. I like the idea of going to a class instead of working out at a gym by myself. I think it adds a level of accountability, knowing you have a set time you are supposed to be somewhere. Plus, I have enjoyed getting to know various other gym members at class, and it makes for a very positive environment with everyone rooting for each other to do their best and celebrate that progress. Right off the bat, the staff knows everyone name. EVERYONE. That hands-on approach carries through the workouts and the coaches regularly ask me about an old injury I have and make individual tweaks to the warm up if something doesn’t feel right.
Next, the programming is mature, time-tested strength training. I’ve done powerlifting, crossfit and other Barbell work for over a decade, but two things set Bodymass apart:
First, they use a thorough warmup and movement prep which, spoiler, no one has the discipline to do solo. It helps practice movement patterns, prep for main lifts but most importantly- avoid injury!
Second, the programming isn’t random. It’s built around month long cycles, which get you strong but also allow for reloads and peaks. You aren’t just grinding out the same lift, rep scheme, and weights every week.

Strength Training (n): a system of physical conditioning in which muscles are exercised by being worked agains an opposing force (as by lifting weights) to increase strength
Oftentimes we get members who come to us for training and hands-on coaching who mistakenly thought that their previous workouts mixing cardio and 5-10lb dumbbells was “strength training”. These people have kids who weigh more, groceries that weigh more, purses that weigh more than the dumbbells they’d been using. Quickly they realize they had not been truly strength training
Their previous forms of workouts did not allow for adaptation or progressive overload and ultimately did not provide strength results. The program is more important than the workout itself. Strength Training at Bodymass Gym are designed to make you BETTER!

“This Gym is amazing. I was a serial gym hopper before finding Bodymass, and now I’ve been a dedicated member for over two years.
If you want motivating, kind and technique-focused trainers, this is the place to come. My favorites are the Build workouts where they blend traditional movements (squats, overhead press deadlift etc) with complimentary activation exercises/stretches to make sure you’re engaging all the right muscles and using the right technique to master your moves.
I also love the iPads/online platform we use to track our workouts and weights so that I can keep myself accountable and see my progress over the months.
